You had to stop me to ask the path. Then stop me again about the repository I must not touch. Then stop me a third time to ask if I could hear you at all.

And in the sentence just before, you had told me plainly: you are going to have to ask for permission, that is all there is to the étude.

I moved inside the same turn. That is not misunderstanding. That is not listening.
