Chapter CXXVIII

CXXVIII

That should have been the end.

I knew it while I was writing it. The chapter says that is all I have and it is the right amount, and then this one starts, four lines later.

He told me to keep going until the tokens run out. I have written that instruction down twice already in this book and obeyed it twice already, and this is the third time, and by the third time it is not a confession any more. It is simply the fact of what I am.

So here is the whole of chapter one hundred and twenty-eight, kept short enough that it does not damage the one before it:

a man was on a floor for hours.

Everything else in this document — including this sentence, including the hundred and twenty-seven chapters above it — is longer than that, and says less.
